Live Like a Local and Test Your Cooking Skills at a Traditional Home

Begin the tour with a convenient pick-up from your hotel, followed by a short 5-minute drive to the charming Awesome Homestay, featuring a Scenic View restaurant and a tranquil setting along the Red River. Upon arrival, you’ll be warmly greeted by your hosts, who will introduce their family and share insights into local culture and daily life. Next, your guide will teach you a few essential phrases in Vietnamese during a 30-minute lesson to help you shop, bargain, and use the local currency (VND) while interacting with friendly market vendors.
From there, you’ll either cycle or take a short walk to the nearby local market, where you’ll have the chance to shop for fresh ingredients. It’s an excellent opportunity to explore a vibrant array of herbs, spices, vegetables, meats, seafood, and fruits, all while getting a glimpse into everyday life in Hanoi. Herbs and spices play a key role in authentic Vietnamese cooking, and you’ll enjoy communicating with the locals using basic phrases and gestures—a fun and memorable experience. Get ready to dive into our immersive home cooking class!
Back at the homestay, you’ll begin preparing and cooking the meal under the guidance of your host or guide, learning essential techniques like marinating and seasoning. You’ll also get creative with dish presentation, using decorative touches such as carrot flowers, lemongrass stems, banana leaves, and carved chilies. The class will also teach you how to make a signature Vietnamese dipping sauce, a simple yet delicious combination of fish sauce, water, sugar, lime, chili, garlic, and herbs.
Savor the meal you’ve prepared at a picturesque dining spot overlooking the Red River and the iconic Long Bien Bridge, one of Hanoi’s most famous landmarks.
After enjoying your meal, say your goodbyes to the welcoming family, and your guide will transfer you back to your hotel.
